For these three weeks, we are struggling learn morphology. Although on the previous time, we had learn it in “LITERASI BAHASA’ course, but for me the range of ideas for English language is quite different. Anyway, I am sure that may be it will bring new ideas in learning morphology in English language.
For week 7, we are learning about bound and free morpheme. As usual, we are concentrating listen the lecture of free and bound morpheme. At first, I am blurring about it. After my lecturer giving some example, I manage to understand what free and bound morpheme is. I realize that there another three “unique” morpheme that I learned. There are three special morphemes such as monomorphemic, dimonophemic and polymorphemic. Besides that, I also learned new words that I never heard it before such as “affix”, “suffix” and “prefix”. After check the meaning, finally I got the idea of these three words. It is not a big deal for me anymore to understand the three words now.
In week 8, we continue learn morphology more detail. This time, we are taught about inflection morpheme, derivational morpheme and allomorphs. Three of this morpheme is not connected to each other. Inflection morpheme means that the affix used to change or functions of the word. For example walk ca be walks, sleep can be sleeping and more. For derivational morpheme, it is about make a new word. For instance, protect –protective, protect-protection and more. For allomorphs, it also about the same words has to produce the sound differently. For example, box-boxes, eat –ate and others. From here, I can conclude that, three of this morpheme are important to learn so that we can see the differ of the meaning of words, how the words can be change and the functions also change, the way to pronouns the sound system also different.
In week 9, I can consider that the highest level in learning the grammar. Here, we are learn about word structure and word formation phrase. Before we start this sub-topic, we also learn some basic ideas of grammar rule that we should take into account in order to improve our grammar. I found that it is more on analyze and identify the phrase, emphasize on make a sentence, learn about major and minor words and tree diagram. Although at first I thought that the grammar is so confusing because it has a rule to make a sentence. But, after learn the tree diagram; I realize to make a simple sentence is easy to do. At the same time, I can learn about how identify the grammar in a sentence. I also felt enjoy during lecture because we have opportunity to brainstorming our brains where we need to make a simple sentence and analyze it in order to show our understanding of this topic. This strategy is quite effective because we can detect how far we are understood about the topic that we learned.
As a conclusion, learning morphology is a first step to know more detail about English language. From here, I had got a new idea in improving grammar. At the same time, I can learn what is the correct way to pronouns some words using the speech organ.
